St. Paul/Minneapolis St. Vincent de Paul has been on the
receiving goods from Hope For The City for almost 2 years.
In the fall of 2003, we picked up a half of semi-load of lights
and chairs that came from Target Corporation. In the last
fiscal year, we received upwards of $150,000 in new hard goods and
food. For about the last six-months, we have been picking up
over 1,000 gallons of milk (not-outdated) per month. This
alone has saved our food shelves thousands of dollars.

As a member of the Lima, Peru, mission group, I am also
grateful for your very generous offer to send a container of
medical supplies and other essentials to the good people of Flores
de Villas, the shantytown near Lima. In fact, our group is
overwhelmed by the $20 - $30 million of supplies you have offered
to send which will, literally, transform the lives of hundreds of
people in desperate need.

Your creative and innovative business model is helping to mead
the needs of the poor and disadvantaged people locally,
nationally and globally with great effectiveness. I wish you a
continued success in this wonderful business endeavor, and I look
forward to opportunities to work together to make a difference for
families at home and abroad.

Your innovative approach to meeting the needs of the
economically disadvantaged members of the Minnesota community is
laudable. You have put to work for the greater good of the
community a simple idea: acquiring society's excess production and
getting it to those in need. By using Community Partners to
distribute your goods, you continue to further leverage the help
to those in need. Your ability to accomplish this worthy goal
while maintaining administrative and fundraising costs below 1% is
astonishing. The efficiency of your method makes your organization
that much more effective.
The more I thought about - and looked at - your program
the more excited I got!

This generous undertaking is yet another example of the
innovation of Minnesota's business community in providing a
private sector response to assisting those in need. I wish you
continued success in your efforts to make lives better, both here
and throughout the world.

As you may be aware Ambassador Han was initially a little
skeptical about the container, the value and condition of the
medical equipment/supplies. I recently received a thank you note
fro Ambassador Han in which he wrote: "Your humanitarian aids
this time will save many lives in our country at the very
difficult time as you did in the past. You are requested to
deliver our appreciation to those we met and those who devoted
their precious money and time for the DPRK people for preparing
donation materials."
